Sabina L.
Shaikh, Ph.D., Senior Research Economist
Dr. Shaikh is a Senior Research Economist at RCF. Her areas
of expertise include environment and natural resource
policy analysis, econometrics, welfare analysis, and
non-market valuation. She has extensive previous research
experience on outdoor recreation demand, forestry and
fishery management and the effects of climate change on
agriculture and environment.
Dr. Shaikh applies advanced econometric approaches to the
yearly 5,000 observation Postal Service Household Diary
using demand system estimation and qualitative choice
maximum likelihood models. Dr. Shaikh has also led research
uncovering the economic value of Chicago beaches and the
economic impact of swimming bans and changes in water
quality. She designed and implemented a survey of 2000
Chicago beachgoers and analyzed the data for policy and
academic outlets.
Dr. Shaikh is currently a Lecturer in Economics and Public
Policy at the University of Chicago where she teaches
Environmental Economics and Public Policy Analysis. She was
previously on the faculty of the Department of Food and
Resource Economics at the University of British Columbia
since July 1999. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of
California-Davis, an M.A. from Colorado State University
and a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin. She has
published in major professional journals.
